Description
After distinguished service during the Revolutionary War, George Washington commissioned Hopley Yeaton as first officer in the Revenue Cutter Service, forerunner of the Coast Guard. Serving in this capacity in the Eastport-Lubec region, he retired to his North Lubec farm where he died in May, 1812. In 1974 the Coast Guard requested removal of remains to its Academy in New London, Connecticut.
