Description
This compass is gimbal-mounted in a hardwood box. The gimbals permit the compass to self-level under all conditions of vessel roll on water. No manufacturer's identification is visible. The compass is from the Casamaro, motor yacht of the Carroll Peacock family of Lubec. The Peacocks entered Lubec's fishing industry in the late 19th Century and remain active as of 2010. The yacht's name derives from the first two letters of the family’s first names: Carroll (1899-1975), Sadie, Marie, and Robert.
