Description
Herring were hung via access through the door-like windows, while smoke escaped from the roof ridge vent.
A large "For Sale" sign hangs on the structure, indicative in 1989 of the demise of Lubec’s almost two-century smoked herring industry. The last Lubec smokehouse, McCurdy’s, would close in 1991.
