Contributed by David Gallagher through Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library
Description
The intersection of Main Street and Bridge Street (later renamed State Street). The snow covered street is crowded with numerous pungs and bobsleds. The postcard was distributed by Kerr & Larrabee, Druggists. The Presque Isle House is on the right.
Bobsleds have front and rear runners. Each pair turns left and right independently and can pivot up and down as the sled is pulled across uneven ground for a smoother, stable ride.
A pung is a work vehicle with space for transporting materials on the bed behind the seat.
