Description
William John Curtis (1854-1927), a native of Brunswick, graduated from Bowdoin College in 1875.
He studied law in Bangor, then attended Columbia University Law School and began practicing law in New York in 1887.
Curtis also served as the first president of the United States Steel Company. He married Angeline Sturtevant Riley of Boston in 1881.
He was active in Bowdoin College affairs and donated to various Bowdoin projects. He also gave funds for the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick in honor of his father, Capt. John Curtis.
He died in Camden in 1927.
