Description
Josiah Pierce Jr. (1861-1902), son of Martha Lander and Josiah Pierce, drew the back door, looking into the garden at the Wadsworth-Longfellow House on Congress Street in Portland.
He was visiting his great-aunt, Anne Longfellow Pierce, who lived in the house. His father wrote to Anne Pierce on Feb. 16, 1886, mentioning that Josiah Jr. had sent him a photograph of the door sketch.
Pierce went on to become a civil engineer.
