Description
Mary King Longfellow (1852-1945), daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Porter Longfellow, gave her aunt, Anne Longfellow Pierce of Portland, a present of several small photographs that were matted and had captions.
The caption for this image of the Longfellow House door was, "The vine still clings to the mouldering wall," a line from the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, "The Rainy Day." The poet was Anne Longfellow Pierce's brother.
