Description
Josiah Pierce, a native of Gorham, went to Russia in 1855 as secretary to the U.S. Legation there. A lawyer, Pierce lived in St. Petersburg, Russia, and London most of his adult life.
After three years in the diplomatic corps, he worked for Winans, Harrison & Winans, a firm involved in railroad development and management.
