Description
"Picture is taken from river bed and looks southerly across to bulkhead and beyond. The old south channel covered bridge shows in the upper right hand corner, with its one central pier. Sign on building beyond bulkhead is 'Caskets, Wholesale and Retail.' Various firms carried on this business there. The structure was at one time owned by M. J. Allen, a millwright, and used by him in connection with that enterprise. There is a glimpse of the Anderson Mills by the right hand end of the structure just discussed. To its left is seen a building, on which the sign, 'Door, Sash and Blind Factory,' appears, part of the wording being cut off by the wheel house, housing part of the power plant of the Anderson Mills.
This picture may have been at any time between 1890 and 1910.
~Roland T. Patten, Custodian of Historical Views, 1929"
