Description
The S. S. Biddeford Victory (ship) was named after the city of Biddeford. It was launched on September 29, 1944 at the Bethlehem-Fairfield shipyard, Baltimore Maryland. The ship has been provided with a 300-book library by this city. The keel of the ship, which took 49 working days to build, was laid June 27. At this time, the vessel was the 86th of this type to be constructed at the Baltimore yard, and brought to 500 the number launched on the war program. George L. Landry, president of the Biddeford City Council represented Mayor Louis B. Lausier at the launching accompanied by Mrs. Landry, Councilmen Archille Croteau, Alphonse Chretien. Charles Laliberte and Mrs. Laliberte. Mrs. George L. Landry christened the ship, Mrs. Charles Laliberte was Matron of Honor.
