Description
Thomas Brackett Reed (1839-1902) of Portland, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and longtime Maine politician, wrote to Portland lawyer Lewis Pierce about his experiences in London.
He said he had "tried every means in my power to comprehend the immensity of the greatest City the world has ever seen."
He told Pierce he hoped to see his brother, Josiah Pierce, who worked for a firm involved in railroads in Russia and England.
