Description
U.S. Representative from Portland, Thomas Brackett Reed, wrote to Portland lawyer Lewis Pierce about a meeting and business deal as well as the state of various initiatives in Washington.
He reported on a story in the Washington papers about money paid to one congressman and noted, "It is strange such preposterous stories should have vogue but the world is credulous." He noted that $250,000, the amount noted in the story, "would seem however to be a high price for one."
