Description
Thomas Brackett Reed of Portland, Speaker of the House of Representatives, wrote to Lewis Pierce, a Portland lawyer (mispelling his name as "Louis), apparently referring to a request from Pierce to help his son Henry H. Pierce obtain a Civil Service appointment in Washington.
