Description
Anne Longfellow Pierce of Portland wrote from Eisenanch, Germany, to her nephew, Lewis Pierce of Portland, inquiring about his children, renovations to his house and other family matters.
Anne Pierce was on a tour of Europe with her brother, the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and his family.
She comments on her travels and relates her pride in seeing the statue in Munich of Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford. He was the half-brother of her late husband's father, Josiah Pierce of West Baldwin.
Anne Pierce was married to George W. Pierce. He died in 1835.
