Description
Josiah Pierce (1827-1913) wrote from Harve, France, to his cousin Phebe Sanborn (1823- ) in Baldwin, offering to buy the Pierce family home from the various heirs.
Their aunt, Hannah Pierce (1788-1873), had lived in the home her whole life and had left it to her nieces and nephews when she died.
Josiah had lived in Russia and England most of his adult life. Although he did not return to Maine to live, he wanted to insure that the house remained in the family and was taken care of.
