Description
Josiah Pierce (1827-1913) wrote to his aunt Anne Longfellow Pierce (1810-1901) in Portland, about his transformation from a "Russian" to an "Englishman."
Pierce had lived in St. Petersburg, Russia, for many years, first as secretary to the American legation there, then as a lawyer for a company involved in railroad management.
He moved to London in about 1870.
