Letter about Longfellow poem set to music, London, 1886

Description

Josiah Pierce (1827-1913), a native of Gorham living in London, wrote to his aunt Anne Longfellow Pierce of Portland about the performances in England of her brother Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1851 poem Golden Legend to Sir Arthur Sullivan's music.

Pierce wrote that the performances were very well received and he sent his aunt a copy of the cantata.
