Description
Jabez Garran of Newburyport, Massachusetts, whose son Nathaniel was a sailor aboard the U.S. brig Enterprise and was killed in an Sept. 5., 1813, battle between that ship and the British Boxer, sought restitution for his loss.
In a letter to Maine Marshal Thomas Thornton of Saco, Garren said he had been trying for more than a year to find the correct person to pay his son's back wages and the restitution.
