Description
Capt. Thomas Desmore of the 33rd U.S. Infantry wrote to Col. Isaac Lane in Saco to report on the American defeat of the British at Plattsburgh, New York, in September 1814.
Densmore wrote, "I have the honor to inform you that we have had the pleasure of defeating the whole Brititish force of 14,000 men commanded by Governor Genl. Prevost."
Densmore went on to describe the bravery and patriotism of the men under his command.
