Description
Helen Sanderson (1882-1963) of East Waterford, at left, was a nurse at the Maine State Sanatorium in Hebron in about 1914. A few years earlier, Sanderson had been a patient at the tuberculosis treatment facility.
She is posing with an unidentified man, possibly a doctor at the sanatorium, and another nurse.
Sanderson later operated Camp McWain for "delicate" girls at East Waterford. She and another nurse followed many of the principles of tuberculosis treatment at the camp: fresh air, good diet, and rest.
