Description
The Pike family children in Lubec starting with the boys, presumably from left, are Bion Moses, Jabez M. Jr., Chester L., and Clark.
The girls are Mary F. and Susannah.
This photograph is a tintype, created as an original collodion image on a lacquer-blackened sheet of iron. Patented in 1856, this became the portraiture medium of choice from after the Civil War until the introduction of gelatin coated glass plates and film as the 1900s approached. Hand tinting of cheeks was common during the era.
