Description
Gideon Blake of Biddeford's Civil War "Certificate of Exemption for a Drafted Person on Account of Disability." Blake was examined by Theo H. Jewite, Surgeon of the Board of Enrollment, and found to have varicose veins, exempting Blake from service in the Army during the Civil War.
