Description
John Mead Gould of Portland (1839-1930), a Civil War veteran, was a bank clerk, but also author of books about the 29th Maine Regiment, camping, and Portland.
Gould was a member of the Portland White Mountain Club, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, veterans organizations, and temperance organizations. He was active in the Seamen's Bethel Church in Portland.
The photo was taken in Monument Square in Portland.
