Description
The Melissa Trask merchant ship in full sail with lighthouse in the distance to the left.
This ship was built in Brewer in 1880, with her home port in Bangor.
The New York Times wrote on September 27, 1883:
"The hurricane which visited Nassau and that vicinity on Friday, 7th inst., destroyed hundreds of vessels and caused great loss of life. The American three-masted schooner Melissa Trask, chartered to obtain a cargo of salt at Long Island for New-York, was driven ashore at Norman's Cay, Ship-channel Cays. Capt. Trask, master of the vessel, arrived yesterday at Nassau in the ship's boat."
