Description
Businesses along Market Square (later Monument Square) in Portland about 1870 included several apothecaries or drug stores, an oyster house and a provisioner.
The apothecary shops are, from left, Luther C. Gilson, 14 Market Square, Francis Sweetser, 17 Market Square, and W. W. Whipple & Co., 21 Market Square.
