Description
S.K. Whiting of Rockland, a member of the Maine 4th Regiment Band wrote the music for "McClellan's Serenade" and Lt. Col. Frank S. Nickerson of Searsport, also of the Maine 4th Regiment, wrote the words.
The quartet is dedicated "To the Union Army."
The 4th Regiment was formed in Rockland in May 1861, shortly after the start of the Civil War.
The regiment fought at many battles, including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania and Cold Harbor.
