Description
Launching the Chester L. Pike, Lubec, 1949. Herbert Colson of Lubec’s legendary Colson Boat Shop spent two years planning and building the 56-foot sardine carrier Chester L. Pike for the Seaboard Packing Company’s Machiasport plant. According to the Bangor Daily News for September 25, 1949, this is the first boat built in Lubec since Colson’s father Ralph launched the Porfisco in 1926.
On the platform left to right, Frank Pike, owner of Seaboard and son of Chester L. Pike, Mrs. Frank Pike, and Lottie Pike, widow of Chester, who will christen the new vessel. The boy is Chester Pike, grandson of Chester L. Pike.
