Description
The Chester L. Pike was 56 feet long with a 15 foot beam. The light draft was about four feet nine inches, loaded with a full catch of herring, six feet ten inches. Named for Chester L. Pike, a pioneer of the sardine industry, the boat was built for the Seaboard Packing Company by the Colson Boat Shop under the direction of Herb Colson Sr. This picture shows it tied to the dock at the end of the boat shop at full tide. Discernable window reflections indicate that the photo was taken from inside the shop. Campobello Island can be seen across the channel.
