Description
George Burgess (1809-1866) was the first Episcopal Bishop of Maine, serving from 1847 to 1866.
Burgess, a native of Rhode Island, graduated from Brown University, studied abroad, and was ordained in 1834.
Burgess also served as rector of the Episcopal Church in Gardiner.
