Description
South Portland's first "Bug Light" or Portland Breakwater Light was built in 1855, then moved to Little Diamond Island.
Another structure was erected in 1874. A lighthouse keeper's house was built beside the lighthouse in 1889. It was electrified in 1937 and deactivated in 1942.
