Description
Susan Maria Patten, the daughter of Stephen Patten (1805-1869) and Elizabeth de Poyen (1806-1868), sat for her portrait shortly before she died at age 22.
Stephen Patten was engaged in the lumber business with his son-in-law, James H. Hamlen, husband of Anne Crosby Patten.
It is possible the family had photographic portraits of all their children as a similar one exists of Stephen Patten Jr. (1838-1863).
