Description

George Brazier (1805-1861) was a ship captain of the Portland built in 1853 in Cape Elizabeth.

According to a December 12, 1854 record, Captain Brazier sailed the clipper from the East Indies to Calcutta, where they discharged their cargo, reloaded and set course for London.

J.A. Giles painted Brazier's portrait in about 1855. Giles worked in London, England, and the painting may have been done there.
