Description
Women were packing sardines by hand in the traditional manner when this photograph was taken in an unnamed Lubec sardine plant. Though the photo lacks sharpness, the hair styles visible suggest the 1920s. The unfrosted incandescent light bulbs visible had reached the final external configuation, and hang from sockets with turn buttons of a style still in common use in the early 21st century.
