Description
Written on the back of this photograph is: "Your friend Fred...Gilbreth..."
Frederick W. Gilbreth of Augusta enlisted as a 2nd lieutenant the 3rd Battery, First Maine Light Artillery Regiment. He was later promoted to captain and aide-de-camp in the 3rd battery. He was breveted lieutenant colonel in March 1865, and breveted major in May 1865.
The photograph was among the belongs of Major Abner Small, who served in the 3rd Maine until 1862 when he became adjutant of the 16th Maine Infantry.
