Roller Coaster remains, Old Orchard fire, Old Orchard Beach, 1948

Description

Downtown Old Orchard from a Kodak Reflex camera, taken on October 4, 1948, assessing the damage from the fire the day before. A newspaper article mentioned the famous wooden roller coaster,"... looked like an oil well on fire." The area burnt was surrounded by Old Orchard Street, West Grand Avenue, Staples Street and the oceanfront. Damages from the fire totaled $250,000.
