Aged Brotherhood rules, Portland, 1876

Description

The Aged Brotherhood of Portland adopted a set of rules in 1876. Members, who had to be at least 65 years old, paid $1 a year.

The funds were used "to relieve the wants of destitute members."

The text on the cover of the rules booklet reads, "Rules and Regulations of the Aged Brotherhood of the City of Portland Adopted August 31, 1876, Portland, ME. Ira Berry, Printer 1876." Handwritten underneath the name of the group is "Incorporated Oct20 1869."
