Description
Passamaquoddy tribal members, Susan Neptune (age 77), left, Fannie Newell (age 60), and Mary Frances (age 65) on the right, posed at the centennial of Maine Statehood observance. Neptune and Frances wore silver trade brooches.
Throughout the 10-day centennial celebration, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot people camped in an "Indian Village" in Portland's Deering Oaks Park, displaying their cultural traditions to the crowds.
This image was a part of a series of photos taken for the July 3, 1920 edition of the Portland Evening Express.
