Description

Wabanaki people made an encampment in Deering Oaks Park in Portland, and participated in the Maine Centennial celebrations, June 26-July 5, 1920. Newell Francis and his wife, Julia F. Mitchell, took part in the events.

This image was published on page twelve of the Saturday, July 3rd, 1920 edition of the Portland Evening Express, with the caption "Noel Francis and wife. Francis was at some time governor of the Penobscots."
