Description
William B. Adams of Raymond, a musician in Co. K of the 5th Maine Infantry, wrote to "Sir," probably his father, Isaac, from Alexandria, Virginia, in 1861.
After discussing various family members, he wrote, "It seems a though you get some curious news. The boys think you hear more than they do." He then reported on a "fracas" at Falls Church in which "quite a number" were killed.
Adams (1842-1922) noted that he had not been mustered into the U.S. forces yet and his unit was still wearing state uniforms.
