Description
Mildred G. Burrage of Kennebunkport (1890-1983) traveled in Europe, studying art in Paris and visiting other countries. The pass gave her access to museums, galleries, and other cultural sites in Rome.
She went to Europe with Mary Wheeler, proprietor of Miss Wheeler's School in Providence, R.I., where Burrage had studied from 1909-1911. Wheeler had studied art in Paris for a number of years and then opened the school in Rhode Island.
Wheeler often took students to Giverny, France, to study and paint in the summer.
Burrage painted in Rome during the winter of 1913-1914.
