Description
Edward Howard York of Portland (1863-1944) was the great-grandson of Lemuel Moody, who built the Portland Observatory.
York donated the building to the City of Portland in 1937.
George Burroughs Torrey (1863-1943), a noted portrait painter who was a native of New York, but who lived in Paris for a number of years, painted York's likeness.
