Description
Mildred G. Burrage of Kennebunkport won the commission to create murals in the science library of a new science building at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania in 1940.
The murals were at each end of the building over fireplaces, one depicting geology and the other, chemistry. Burrage worked with the college faculty on the designs for the murals, which were painted on Masonite that had been attached to the walls. They were to look like part of the wall, but could not be done as frescoes.
The murals were 7'11" by 10'4" and surround the fireplaces.
