Contributed by Congregation Shaarey Tphiloh
Description
Mrs. Louis R. Berenson, president of the Shaarey Tphiloh Sisterhood, reported on the year's activities and expectations for the coming year for the sisterhood at the Orthodox synagogue on Newbury Street in Portland.
She noted that the group had a large membership and had started a scholarship for outstanding students at the Portland Hebrew School, in part to keep students interested in Judaism.
She also commented on the end of the World War II and the positive effects that would have on the sisterhood and on families.
The Sisterhood provided financial support to the synagogue as well as providing support to members and carrying out other duties that helped keep the synagogue functioning.
