Description
William S. Farwell of Rockland (1845-1890) was 16 when he enlisted in Co. B of the Maine 4th Infantry Regiment on Feb. 28, 1862. He was mustered out in August 1862.
Farwell enlisted in Co. M of the Maine 2nd Cavalry Regiment on Jan. 2, 1864 as a corporal. He mustered out a year later.
He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in Co. L of the District of Columbia 1st Cavalry on June 15, 1864 and transferred several months later to Co. C of the Maine 1st Cavalry Regiment. He was mustered out of the service on Aug. 1, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia.
