Description
Meshach P. Larry (1835-1864), a native of Windham, wrote this letter near Warrenton Junction, Virginia, to his sister, Phebe.
A blacksmith by trade, he joined Maine's 17th Regiment Company H on August 18, 1862. Larry and his sister wrote to each other frequently during the Civil War, and his letters paint a vivid picture of the life of a soldier.
The letters end just before Larry went missing after the Battle of the Wilderness. He was last seen on May 6, 1864.
