Description
The Portland Company in Portland, Maine crafted marine equipment beginning in 1882 with engines and boilers for steamships and tugboats. Admiral Peary's ship, the Roosevelt, was fitted for Arctic exploration with a power plant supplied by the Portland Company. The steamboat the Lubek's engines were some of many crafted at the factory on 58 Fore Street in Portland, Maine.
