Description
Mary Elise Fellows (1873-1953) toured the northern U.S. and Canada in 1895-96 as part of the McKenzie tours.
Fellows, of Skowhegan, was a violin prodigy who had studied in Boston and Europe. Rebecca McKenzie was a vocalist and Bertha O'Reilly played the piano. With few musical careers open to women, such tours were not uncommon in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
While in British Columbia, Fellows met Bruce White, a prospector and mine owner, whom she married in 1898.
