Description
Sanford & Cape Porpoise electric railroad line was built in 1893. Electric streetcars could be operated at less expense and over longer distances than their horse-drawn predecessors, permitting the spread of an expanding urban population over a much wider area. This trolley line began serving the Sanford area in 1893, a period of tremendous growth in electric trolley lines.
