Description

Hannibal Hamlin was born in Paris Hill in 1809.

As an adult, he moved to Hampden where he practiced law. He was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1836 and served until 1840 and again in 1847.

He also served as Maine governor for one year, in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate and was Vice President under Abraham Lincoln from 1861-1865.
