Description
Dr. Eben H. Bennet, right, began practicing in Lubec in 1876, continuing until almost 90 years of age. His son DaCosta, left, also had a career as a Lubec physician, and his son Eben T., standing in front became a Portland obstetrician-gynecologist. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote that Eben H. Bennet “was calm and philosophical. He lived with people who did not make a fuss about little things. He had been in many a home where one did the best one could with what one had at hand, and he had little patience with anything that was not real, sincere and courageous.” In other words, the Canadian-born Bennet originated from the same forthright rural stock as the native Lubeckers he served for almost 70 years.
